Both companies declined to reveal how much these deals will cost, but the Canoos delivery-only lifestyle vehicle option is currently priced at $34,750 per unit. Walmarts interest in EV-fitted Canoo is, not surprisingly, focused around the delivery variant of the Lifestyle Vehicle.

Drones, driverless trucks, and zippy little cargo pods may be all in play for Walmarts delivery services of the future, and a new deal with EV outfit Canoo brings yet another next-generation vehicle to the mix. Startup electric-vehicle manufacturer Canoo Inc., which said there were significant doubts over its survival as recently as May, appears safe for now thanks to Wal-Marts purchase of 4,500 of its delivery vehicles in the Lifestyle Delivery Series. Walmart has signed on, electric car startup Canoo said.

Walmart said on Tuesday that it has signed a deal to buy 4,500 fully electric delivery vehicles from Canoo, the electric-vehicle startup-turned-SPAC which warned last quarter it might not have enough cash to stay in business. Canoo, the electric-vehicle startup-turned-SPAC which warned last quarter it might not have enough cash to stay in business. Walmart is buying 4,500 all-electric delivery vehicles from EV maker Canoo to fill eCommerce orders through 2023, the company announced Tuesday. Canoo, an electric-vehicle maker, said Tuesday its electric vehicles would be driven by Walmart associates and used to deliver online orders, ranging from groceries to general merchandise, with potential to also be used for Walmart GoLocal, the companys Walmart Delivery-as-a-Service operation. Walmart employees will be hitting the streets with the 4s in 2023 to deliver online orders, Canoo said in a statement on Tuesday.

Walmart and electric car maker Canoo said advanced deliveries would start within the next few weeks in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, in an effort to fine-tune and complete the vehicles configuration. While 4 is expected on the roads by 2023, Canoo plans to ship some vans to retail giant Walmart for pre-production delivery in the coming weeks in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to fine-tune and finalize vehicle configuration, according to a recent news release. While 4 are expected to start hitting the road in 2023, Walmart and EV startup Canoo are planning to start advance deliveries to refine and finalize vehicle configurations in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, according to a recent press release. Canoo and Walmart are customizing the LDV to handle last-mile deliveries, adding cargo spaces instead of front passenger seats, and sliding shelves in the back designed to accommodate the shopping carts used at Walmart.

EV startup Canoo has struck an agreement with Walmart to supply 4,500 of its EV commercial vehicles to use for last-mile deliveries. Wal-Mart has supplied 4,500 of its EV commercial vehicles. As part of Walmarts drive toward net-zero emissions by 2040, the superstore chain said today it has signed a final agreement with EV startup Canoo to procure 4500 of its electric vehicles for use in last-mile delivery. Walmart has signed an agreement with EV manufacturer Canoo to buy 4,500 electric vehicles, with an option for Canoo to buy as many as 10,000, the companies said Tuesday in a joint news release. Walmart has signed a definitive agreement with the high-tech, advanced mobility company Canoo to buy 4,500 fully electric delivery vehicles, starting with Lifestyle Delivery Vehicle (LDV) The company said Tuesday it will purchase 4,500 of its all-electric Delivery Vehicles, starting with Lifestyle Delivery Vehicle (LDV), with the option to buy up to 10,000 units.

EV startup Canoo announced Tuesday that it has reached an agreement that includes branded, customized “Lifestyle Delivery Vehicles” (LDVs), and that Walmart will be the first to obtain them. Walmart announced last month that it would purchase 4,500 of the Canoo LDVs in order to further its climate goals and to support growing demand for in-home delivery services. EV startup Canoo has previously said that it will build its vehicles in-house in a small Bentonville, Ark., facility, home to customers and shareholders of Walmart itself, as it works to construct a specialized facility in Pryor, Okla. The somewhat surprising news probably suggests manufacturing issues for EV startup Canoo Walmart has placed an order for at least 4,500 electric vans, with an option for as many as 10,000.

Despite a reversal in plans regarding production, Canoo CEO Tony Aquila said deliveries to customers and shareholders are expected to start at Wal-Mart itself in Q1-2023. It is not clear how long the deal with Walmart has been working for Canoo. Just recently, Canoo said that a planned production facility in Pryor, Okla., may have been delayed, citing supply chain issues. Walmart and struggling electric car maker Canoo became neighbors last year, when Canoos corporate headquarters moved from California to Wal-Marts acreage in Bentonville, Ark.–but at that point, the companies did not announce any publicly available deals.

The orders for Canoo, an ailing EV maker, are not Walmarts only EV assets: In January, Walmart also reserved 5,000 fully electric delivery vans from BrightDrop, which is owned by General Motors. Walmart Inc. (WMT.N) has reserved 5,000 all-electric delivery vans from General Motors Companys (GM.N) BrightDrop, its commercial electric vehicle operation. Walmart plans to use the electric vans of all three companies for in-home delivery and other deliveries locally. Canoo chairman and CEO Tony Aquila, who is also an investor in the company, told TechCrunch earlier this year that Lifestyle delivery vehicles are ergonomically sound, spacious–about 120 cubic feet of cargo room–and cost-efficient when compared with other delivery vans on the market today, thanks to its steering-by-wire technology, which cuts down on moving parts and intrusions into the passenger compartment.
