Tesla offers three models within the range for the Tesla UK, with a curious price band. Three distinct trims of the Tesla Model 3 are offered for 2021, with each offering different estimated driving ranges. The Performance trim outfits Teslas 5-seat Model 3 sedan with 20-inch grey wheels, updated brakes, lower ride height, Track driving mode, a carbon-fiber lip spoiler, and aluminum-alloy pedals. Opt for Model 3s long-range engine package, or a Performance option, and costs easily soared.
Teslas 5-seat Model 3 sedan gives owners plenty of EV range and lots of tech, all for about $40,000. For those with more of a budget, the 2020 Chevy Bolt costs less, offers better driving range (compared with Model 3s standard engine pack), even if it is smaller.
With its excellent range, performance, a degree of utility, good crash-safety ratings, and a bit of fun-to-drive personality, the Tesla 5-seat Model 3 sedan could prove to be a worthwhile all-electric car for someone who values living off of fossil fuels. Despite being an EV focused mostly on providing range and practicality, the 2020 Tesla Model 3 drives like a sports car in most respects, with all the heavy powertrain mass sitting lower on the chassis and between the wheels.
The first mass-produced Tesla Model 3 vehicle is a rear-wheel drive model equipped with the longest-range battery pack. The companys plans for Model 3 were part of Teslas 3-phase strategy, starting with high-priced vehicles and moving incrementally toward lower-priced vehicles, while improving battery packs and EV drivetrains, paid for by sales of the Roadster, Model S, and Model X vehicles.
Autopilot, which was formerly an option at $3000, is included with all versions of the Tesla Model 3, with the exception of the lowest-priced model, with the price for each version increasing only $2,000. Electrek reported at the end of 2018 that an improved battery cell design was needed to further lower the cost of batteries, since Tesla was planning to start shipping a standard range version with the promised $35,000 base price next year.
The Long Range model includes a 20,000-mile extra range on the coverage of its batteries and driving components. If you use the vehicle for longer-distance driving or commuting frequently, the Long Range model, with a 353-mile range, might be worth an upgrade. Upgrading to either the Long Range or Performance models increases Model 3s estimated range up to 315 miles for Model 3 Performance, and a whopping 353 miles for the Long Range. The base model offers a driving range of up to 263 miles according to EPA, while the most expensive Long Range models are capable of reaching 353 on a single charge.
The 263 miles of estimated driving range in the base model should be plenty of for most folks, and comes with heated front seats and navigation as standard. Our extended-range Long Range Model, however, managed just 84 MPGe when we took it for a 200-mile fuel-economy test on the highway.
Model 3s performance jumped off the line at just 3.5 seconds to reach 60 mph – 0.5 seconds quicker than our long-term Model Long Range. The EVs rated ranges quoted above are the official WLTP ranges, stretching from 254 miles on Standard Range Plus models through 329 miles on the Performance, all the way up to 348 miles on our longest-range specs. On the Long Range models, the initial motor is augmented with an in-house, 3-phase, three-phase permanent-magnet motor mounted behind, which, combined with the initial motor, produces 449 horsepower.
The model shown here is equipped with the slightly larger LFP (variant E6LR) battery, resulting in greater range. The Tesla Model 3 is still feeling like something of a game-changer: Its range, technology, and charging infrastructure are almost unbeatable, for a little more than 400 pounds per month. The Tesla Model 3 is the winner: it has an impressive real-world battery range, has a spacious, airy cabin, drives well across versions, and offers driver-assistance technology that mostly works smoothly in the UK. The Tesla Model 3 is still the best-handling electric vehicle on the market, thanks to Teslas excellent network of superchargers, and its well-designed cabin is full of smart storage solutions and clever engineering to make everyday use more pleasant.
Best Deals for the 2020 Tesla Model 3 for April While it lacks some features from the 2021 vehicle, buying the used 2020 Model 3 gives you nearly everything you want in an electric vehicle, without the lengthy wait time and high sticker price. There are also few options for the interior and equipment so far, making the Tesla Model 3 one of the only cars in this segment that has a lean-looking price range. If a Model Y was on the market when we bought the Model 3, we likely would have bought a Model Y, but there are some benefits to having a car that rides lower, does not have as big of a back end.
The Tesla Model 3 ended 2019 as the best-selling plug-in electric car worldwide for a second straight year, with a little more than 300,000 units delivered. In the UK, the Tesla Model 3 was named the Car of 2019 by Automobile Express magazine, and 2020 car of the year by Parkers Magazine, where it was also named the Best Electric Car and the Best Corporate Car, as well as winning the Best Safety Award of any vehicle on the market.
We wanted to find out just how big an effect the plastic aerodynamic wheel covers had on driving range of the Tesla Model 3 in 2021, so we put them to the test, and were surprised to discover that they helped far more than expected.
