In conjunction with the Genesis GV60s arrival to the U.S. market, today, Genesis Motor America announced a deal with Electrify America to provide 30-minute free charging sessions for three years starting on vehicle purchase. The GV60, the first dedicated Genesis Motors electric car, will begin at a price point of just under $60,000, including delivery, and provide three years of free charging at stations on the Electrify America network. Its first GV60 BEV is set to follow the Electrified G80, the Genesis first all-electric sedan, later this summer. Now, the Genesis drive to net-zero emissions has begun across the nation, with GV60s on delivery.
Genesis delivered the very first BEV, the GV60, to California, which also happens to be the very first fully electric Genesis car delivered nationwide. With first images of Hyundais luxurious brand-name Genesis GV60–released less than a month ago–coming onto Australian roads is a bit of a surprise. The Genesis electric G80 will surely face plenty of expectations in the EV space.
The 2023 new Genesis GV60 is an all-electric, or BEV, or battery-electric, car, which means that no gas-powered or hybrid models are offered. Genesis currently offers three hatchbacks, and, with the GV60 EV, will also offer three SUVs. That means that a Genesis GV60 is likely to offer a similar choice of battery packs (58kWh and 77kWh) along with 800V ultra-fast charging, as well as perhaps a two-waycar-to-load function.
The GV60 that has just been introduced is much more important, in the longer run, as it is the first Genesis model to take on the dedicated EV platform with batteries. Genesis plans on becoming an all-electric brand by 2030, starting with the recently introduced GV60. Genesis Motor America has committed to having all new models launched be all-electric starting in 2025, with the full range of their vehicles going all-electric by 2030. The G80 electrified, Genesiss foray into the electrified car space, is a companion to the new compact SUV, the GV60, which is a plug-in electric, in the Genesis 2023 model year portfolio, and is a completely new model.
For the 2023 model year, Genesis will introduce an electric version of its G80 sedan, called the Electrified G80. The G80 hatchback is available from 2020, with a range-extended battery pack. The Genesis Electrified G80 is expected to be available in the market during the 2023 model year, and Korea is likely to be the manufacturing site. The launch of the Uyuni White GV60 represents only the first step toward the brands total electrification.
Starting from the GV60s release, and continuing through all new models in 2023, Genesis vehicles are now equipped with Connected Care, which has no time limit. These innovative features allow drivers to stay even more connected with their vehicles, making Genesis GV60 the most personalized and customizable model from the brand to date. The GV60 introduced something that Genesis Motors calls Face Connect, which uses biometric data to lock and unlock the car, similar to a face recognition system built on smartphones. The brand notes both face-recognition scans and fingerprint data are stored solely within the car, rather than a central server, and a drivers photo is not enough to unlock the new 2023 Genesis GV60.
The brand considers itself to be a brand that is “disrupting,” and the new 2023 Genesis GV60, the first of the three electric vehicles it is rolling out this year, is meant to embody this. The new crossover, Genesis GV60, which is scheduled for a Korean sale this year, will be Genesiss first model using the companys battery-electric dedicated platform – but it will not be the last, with the brand declaring it would completely abandon its use of internal combustion engines by the end of the decade. The Genesis GV60 is coming to U.S. markets as the first audacious step in the brands shift toward an all-electric lineup. The Uyuni White GV60 also debuted new, EV-specific features from Genesis Connected Services, such as off-peak charging management, scheduled climate control, and remote start/stop charging.
Owners of the 2023 GV60 will be eligible for super-fast charging over the coast-to-coast Electrify America charging network, and will be able to locate and seamlessly access charging stations when they are on the road through Genesis Connected Services and Electrify Americas mobile apps. With an ever-growing lineup of award-winning models — including the EV70 SUV — Genesis Motor America is committed to leading in the age of electrification, with an emphasis on a two-pronged electrification strategy that includes both fuel-cell and battery-electric vehicles, starting with the G80 and the EV60.
The $2023 Genesis GV60 Performance AWD, priced at $67,890, adds a higher-power (160kW, 429 hp) front-mounted electric motor, Boost Mode (up to 483 hp), Nappa leather-appointed seats, an Ergo Motion massage drivers seat, 21-inch wheels, and a digital key with Apple and Android compatibility. The new 2023 Genesis GV60 offers Boost Mode.
Genesis North America shared news of the delivery with a press release a few days after Patricia Wayne, the first GV60 recipient, picked it up in Santa Monica, Calif. Patricia Wayne, based in Los Angeles, has been following closely on the Uyuni White GV60, as well as participating in Priority One, a program designed to tailor a bespoke purchasing experience for GV60, the brands first electric car exclusively. The brand provided accommodations, meals, and transportation so we could provide this first-person account.
