In this buyers expert guide, we are going to cover some of the benefits of electric cars from Hyundai, as well as what makes them better. No matter where you fall on the spectrum, we have listed every EV company, their current vehicles, and potentially, their future vehicles. Our alphabetical listing helps you shop around whether you are looking to buy an electric vehicle now or in the coming years, or you simply want to plan or dream of the car you could drive decades down the road.
Porsche, known for luxury cars, now wants to be known for its luxurious electric cars. While Mercedes-Benz dipped into the electric vehicle game several years ago with its B-class EV, the company is looking to have a full-electric revival with the forthcoming EQ range. Germanyas most successful carmaker is spending A!30bn ($34bn) over the next five years to build an electric or hybrid version of each car in its range, with plans for 70 new EV models to launch between now and 2028.
The massive amount of capital VW is investing will help it sell over 1.4 million electric cars annually through 2025, according to projections from LMC Automotive, a higher volume than any other carmaker, and over triple the sales that Tesla is expected to generate. Success means that Germanyas most successful carmaker will outpace competitors, including Tesla, in selling EVs and push back against emerging competitors from China and Silicon Valley; failure may mark the start of the end for a company that employs 665,000 people and generates $265 billion a year.
While Germanyas most successful carmaker has telegraphed its ambitions to reach a mass-market market for electric cars, its luxury brands are leading. After taking its Bolt EV hatchback to market in 2017, Chevy is now planning on making larger-sized EVs, too. While the company offers hybrids, such as Hondas 2021 CR-V, the next all-electric vehicle is at least 2024, with Hondas Prologue.
California-based electric vehicle company Fisker Inc. wants to have its first car on the market by 2022. Now Hyundai has announced Hyundai is working on a low-cost electric vehicle as well. Hyundai confirmed it is joining the race to create a new, smaller, less-than-$20,000 electric vehicle.
Hyundai is now planning to join Nissan and others in expanding Hyundais tech to encompass car-to-grid. The new EV versions are intended to help Hyundai maintain market share in Europe, where regulations are increasingly forcing the shift toward EVs.
In recent years, Hyundai and other carmakers have worked tirelessly to build new lines of fully electric vehicles. Historically, that is been the case for vehicles such as the Smart line, Fiat 500e, and Honda Clarity, and currently, that is the case for Hyundais Ioniq 5 and Kona EV (for now, according to Hyundai).
Sales are a reason why you cannot buy a Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kona Electric, or Ioniq Electric at your local dealership right now in some states. For now, Hyundai is restricting sales of the 2022 Ioniq 5 to states with zero-emissions laws. Ultimately, Hyundais plan is to open sales nationwide, according to a company spokesperson, but because there are a finite number of Hyundai Ioniq 5s available right now, they are being allocated to a mix of states with these zero-emissions car laws, as well as others.
The Ioniq 6 will be Hyundai Motors third fully electric car in the US, following the Kona crossover and Ioniq 5. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Hyundai Kona Electric are two of the more well-liked EVs in Hyundais current line. Hyundai has aggressive plans for the rest of the light-duty truck and passenger car markets.
Watching Hyundais efforts in joining up with Volkswagen Group should give us some really competitive EVs. With the playing field largely evened out thanks to the technological transitions tectonics, expect Hyundai to do likewise for EVs, though a patchwork of emissions regulations and global cultural differences means that different markets will be moving at different speeds. Some of the EV companies are automotive world mainstays, with top-selling vehicles like Ford, while others have not released a single car – and might never even.
Officially, Hyundai is not selling the Ioniq 5 in 24 states that are not listed above, but dealers are separate entities, and they may be able to work with you and a dealer in one of the listed states to get and deliver one to your location – at some cost, of course. Hyundai Glovis, located in Korea, has set up an electric car (EV)-specific freight-carrying solution to address demand from the EV-carrying market. Hyundai Glovis, logistics division of Hyundai Motor Group, said on Wednesday that Hyundai Glovis has established the worlds first electric vehicle-optimized maritime transportation system, addressing a rapidly expanding eco-car market.
Currently, Hyundais Ioniq 5 is able to perform vehicle-to-load, also known as V2L, allowing drivers to take a charge from a vehicles battery. Hyundai plans to expand bidirectional charging capabilities to its battery electric vehicles (BEVs) to enable them to play a full part in an electricity grid, and also provide energy to appliances. While many mass-market auto companies are sticking to the front-wheel drive electric cars, possibly also because that is what is becoming familiar for many buyers, Volkswagen Group is placing its engines in the back.
