On 28 September 2021, EV startup Lucid said that it had begun producing its first customers vehicle from its plant in Casa Grande, Arizona. Electric car startup Lucid said on Monday that it has reservations on vehicles from its Air sedan. Lucid has promised 20,000 of the Air sedan electric cars by 2022, and 90,000 by 2023, thanks to the 2,855-million-square-foot expansion now under way at the companys manufacturing plant in Casa Grande, Ariz. About one month after starting production of the Lucid Air sedans at its Casa Grande, Arizona, manufacturing plant, Lucid Air plans to deliver the first vehicle to customers Saturday, Oct. 30, marking an important milestone for the company.
Lucid announced today it will begin deliveries of its electric sedan, the Air, on October 30. CASA GRANDE, Ariz., September 28 (Reuters) – Lucid Group Inc (LCID.O), the American start-up, said Tuesday that it would begin deliveries of a luxurious, electric sedan with driving range besting that of Tesla at the end of October, offering a serious challenge to market leaders, whose sales of the top-of-the-range models have stalled. Lucid Motors said it has begun producing the Lucid Air, and it plans to deliver its first Dream Edition models at the end of October. Silicon Valley-based electric car startup Lucid Motors said on Tuesday that it would start shipping its highly anticipated collection of luxury EVs in October, at a time when rivals are struggling to manufacture new cars because of global shortages in semiconductors.
Lucid Motors first vehicle (and, as of this writing, only) is the Lucid Air, a luxury sedan starting at $77,400 that could top $170,000 a vehicle, according to the companys website. After the debut Lucid Air was named Motor Trends car of the year for 2022, Lucid was seen as a major threat to Tesla due to the hatchbacks range of over 500 miles per charge and its compelling styling in its debut model. Lucid Air was led by Peter Rawlinson, who had worked previously as an engineer on Teslas Model S. Speaking from its factory in Arizona, Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson, the former lead engineer on the Tesla Model S, said that its long-delayed car, Lucid Air, has advantages over the Teslas with its battery technology and its price.
California-based Lucid began producing its long-delayed Lucid Air cars at its Arizona plant on Tuesday, saying it is targeting a ramp-up in the plants production rate of 90,000 vehicles a year within the next couple of years. Lucid projects that Lucid will only produce 577 cars in 2021, followed by 20,000 units in 2022. Lucid Motors has been shipping cars consistently since October 2021, but cut the years manufacturing estimates in half in February 2022. Lucid Motors Airs first shipped in October 2021, though in that month, it delivered few vehicles, and most were delivered to reviewers and other industry figures.
It was here that Lucid Group (LCID) revealed that in the second quarter of 2022, it shipped only 679 vehicles, far short of its more than 37-vehicle, Lucid Air EV. In the years since the arrival of Teslas Model S, the industry has started catching up, and now, if you want a fully-electric, full-size luxury sedan, there are several other options you can consider, including Mercedes-EQs EQS, the Porsche Taycan, or, like here, 2022s Lucid Air. If you are not enthralled with everything car-related, or at least excited by electric vehicles (EVs), Lucid Motors and its Air sedan might not sound familiar. This vehicle has been likened favorably to the best of Teslas offerings, and those are fighting words in the EV market.
Lucid Motors, which is based in Silicon Valley, claims the honor of selling the first EV to boast a EPA-estimated range over 500 miles, its $169,000 Lucid Air Dream Edition R. That version, which has a 933-hp motor, is priced at $169 for its next air sedan, which, if equipped with the 19-inch wheels, is estimated at 520 miles. Lucid Group Inc is focusing on the $169,000 limited-production Dream Edition, the debut of its EV for consumers. The Dream Edition Performance, when equipped with the 19-inch wheels-and-tires package, will deliver 471 miles of range–still far more than offered by Teslas Model S and Mercedes-Benzs EQS–the other long-range luxury electric sedans. Lucid Air also indicates the Dream Edition Performance, rated at 1,111 horsepower and 1,025 pound-feet of torque, will deliver a quarter-mile time of 9.67 seconds when equipped with the 21-inch wheel and tire package, and it will achieve the zero-to-60-mph sprint in only 2.42 seconds.
A version of the Lucid Air Dream Edition was recently given a range rating of 520 miles (837 kilometers) from the EPA, which is the longest for any electric vehicle the agency has evaluated, and is around 100 miles longer than the Tesla Model S, the closest competitor priced at $89,990. In addition to potentially beating Teslas range, the Lucid Air promises rare perks such as Dolby Atmos audio, super-fast charging (20 minutes to reach 300 miles), and a 34-inch cabin display. Rawlinson said EV startup Lucid is taking steps to ease supply-chain barriers, and it is still planning on rolling out lower-cost versions of its Air sedan before 2022.
